Created by Composer and sound designer David Kamp, Using a collection of sounds recorded by David of wild creatures in far remote areas. David then invited various illustrators to listen to and interpret these sounds and create sketches of the creatures they heard.

The strange and amazing result is Sound Creatures an archive David hopes will one-day serve as a valuable resource for scientists in the relatively new field of sound creature observation.

One of my favourite places on the web to see varying types of typography is Lettercult.com. It has such a vast array of different styles, and methods and at times pushing the definition of typography. Above are some my favs from the Day 1 post of the best of lettercult for day 1. The ones I choose definitely have a certain style to them so be sure to check out the rest of the entrees they may not suit my taste but the are some are impressive to say the least.

Most people delete spam email not giving it the light of day and then theres Linzie who says yeah I reckon I could do something with those. The result is a collection of humorous and brillant one liners published as a collection on illustrated postcards. Titled Secret Weapon: 30 Hand-Painted Spam Postcards there are 13 in the collection and now you can also purchase them as prints from Thumbtack Press and 20×200.com.

There’s something to Linzie’s style that adds a quality on innocence and in turn makes you have a nice little chuckle to yourself.

The prints at $35 – $40 each are a steal and are definitely put a smile on your face every time you look at them.

Skate & Create is a contest hosted by Transworld Skateboarding magazine, where four teams from different skateboarding companies are invited to spend ten days shooting in a warehouse using the same obstacles with a limit of six skaters. The rules are as follows:

* The four teams are made up of a total of six skaters—four pros and two ams.
* Each team is given nine days in a warehouse with the same set of obstacles.
* Each team is allowed one art director on site.
* Each team is assigned one TWS photographer to shoot a feature article for the magazine.
* Each team is allowed a film crew to produce a video for skateboarding.com.
* The final photo and video product is judged by the TWS edit staff (minus S&C coordinators Skin Phillips and Josh Brooks) on the level of skating, creativity, the use of obstacles, and overall image and video quality.
* The winner gets the cover of the magazine and will have a spot reserved in Skate & Create 2011.

I have to say this is the best of both worlds for me blurring the lines between skateboarding and art. Many skateboarders are hyper creative (check out his some here) and the results above speak for themselves.

These amazing works are from Portuguese-born artist Alexandre Fartot (aka Vhils) and his show Scratching The Surface. Taking expanding the definition of street art, Fartot carves his work out of all different mediums from brick walls to street posters to wood.
“By re-contextualising the urban settings, Vhils explores and questions the many dimensions of cities and their inhabitants in a series of playful works. Focusing on the people that inhabit the artist’s multicultural environment he draws attention to the layers that underlie it. A set of portraits of unknown faces use unconventional techniques and materials; acid and bleach eat into surfaces to expose the layers beneath, the act of destruction becoming an act of creation, posters that exemplify a consumer society are subtly converted into objects poignantly celebrating humankind.” Taken from serialoptimist.com ( I couldn’t have said it any better)

Ive seen similar styled stuff but no where near as well done or as detailed as his. But he’s not just a one dimensional artist his other work at his website, showcase his amazing talents and eye for detail.
